Q&A 19 – Must a Certificate of Compliance be obtained?

Insurers wants SANS 10254 compliant installations. Clients, because they know nothing about geysers, believe they get a complaint installation. Plumbers do whatever they want since they know the client hasn’t got the foggiest idea and then charge whatever they want way over what the limits of the Insurer is and the client has to foot the further bill plus the excess. SANS prescribe lagging and plumber says that is extra? Insurer says they don’t cover this. To me there is a misdirect between Insurer, client and plumbers.

Today’s B grade geysers don’t fit into cupboards anymore? Whose problem is it now to knock out walls or whatever is required to make it fit into the space?

As for plumbers on an Insurers panel? Tried it twice and those were not qualified in my eyes. One actually tried to get more money out of us for an element replacement and wouldn’t send me the invoice to prove what it was for? Had to get it thru the broker to see a fee for something not done.
